Financial Assistance

When people working in or retired from retail face difficult circumstances, Retail Trust can provide financial assistance in the form of one-off hardship grants or equipment that may help them get their lives back on track. This year, Retail Trust will give away £1 million to those who need it.

The financial help that Retail Trust offers is available to all people who work in retail and their families, providing they meet the eligibility criteria – see Am I eligible? Grants have been given for essential household items to families in desperate need, and specialist equipment has been provided following accidents or ill health to help people regain their independence. Please call the Retail Trust Helpline on 0808 801 0808 for more details. You can download an application form for financial asistance here.

Case study

Paula had a very difficult childhood and went into foster care when she was a teenager. She led an unsettled life and had a child with a man who became abusive. After seeking advice from a housing charity, she had the confidence to leave the relationship. Despite her wish to be more independent, debt was preventing her from moving on. Paula asked Retail Trust for financial assistance and we provided a grant to help clear her debts, allowing her to start again.

“I really wanted to give a good example to my child by working and sorting my life out, but during that stressful time my finances just got out of control. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for this opportunity of a fresh start. Thank you.”
