When you’re least expecting it, things can happen in your life and you need help paying for something that you can’t cover with your usual salary. Perhaps your child has just had an operation and needs some equipment, or maybe sickness has meant that you can’t work and now you’re behind with your rent. Or perhaps a natural disaster has ruined your furniture. All these things and many others can happen to people just like you and me.
We look at each situation and give grants to people who need them the most, so if you are currently working in retail and have done so for the last two years, or you have retired from retail and have 2 years service you may be able to get a one-off hardship grant.
This year we will be awarding £1 million in grants and services to people like you who are working in or retired from retail.
We have organised payments for all kinds of items that have made a big difference to someone’s life such as a washing machine, a carpet, or a mobility scooter, through to paying for someone’s funeral or in exceptional circumstances, a mortgage payment.
To find out if you could get a hardship grant, contact the Retail Trust Helpline.

When Rob and Rachel’s seven year old Molly was injured in a car accident, it left her in hospital for 3 months.
“It was awful seeing Molly in hospital, but the whole time, we worried about how she would cope when she came home. Retail Trust came to our rescue and provided a grant so we could bring her bedroom downstairs so she didn’t have to use the stairs. She’s getting on brilliantly now but and we are eternally grateful to Retail Trust for helping us when we really needed it."
Rachel, 45 Supermarket Manager, Belfast
