According to the latest statistics, around 4.75 million UK households are currently living in fuel poverty, which means they are spending 10% or more of their disposable income on energy costs*. To pay rising energy bills, many are resorting to drastic measures such as skipping meals. Elizabeth Finn Care’s recent research discovered nearly two-fifths (37%) of people could not afford to heat their homes and over half (57%) had been forced to miss meals before approaching the Charity for a grant.
In November 2011, Turn2us launched its first fuel poverty campaign to tackle this growing issue and promote the support available to those struggling with these costs through the winter.
The campaign, aimed at low income individuals and families who may be concerned about paying their winter fuel bills, will be to encourage them to access Turn2us and follow three main steps to help avoid fuel poverty:
1. Checking eligibility for welfare benefits and charitable grants to maximise their income
2. Find out about home insulation to make it more energy efficient
3. Check they are getting the best deal on their energy tariff
Check out how Turn2us can help you.
