Customers made away with their bespoke t-shirts at the Make Away pop-up shop in Brighton on Saturday, as part of unique offering Retail Ready People that gives young people the chance to set up and run shops in empty units in their town.
Live screen-printing in the shop window piqued the interest of passers-by in Brighton’s Lanes, who were then invited to customise their own t-shirts to take away, featuring designs from local Brighton artists.
Volunteers treated their customers to free pizza and serenaded them with live music while they created their t-shirts and shopped for other items including artists’ prints and hand-made jewellery.
The Make Away pop-up shop, which is the first in a series of pop-ups shops as part of Retail Ready People organised by Retail Trust and vInspired, will be open Tuesdays to Sundays from 10am – 5pm for all of November. Evening workshops will bring the space alive in the evening: button-covering, felting, jewellery-making and screen-printing. Find out more at www.make-away.com or on Twitter @make_away and #retailready, or to register your interest for the workshops, please call 07792 855 867.

The next pop-up shop, Cosy Cove, as part of Retail Ready People will be opening in Enfield on 10 November at 11am where volunteers will be kitting out their public with essential toasty accessories, natural skincare products and homeware items from local suppliers.
