retailRIGHT launches Trailblazer group to develop the first level 6 Retail Apprenticeship Degree
We are very pleased to announce that retailRIGHT, the training and development arm of the retailTRUST, has launched the first level 6 Retail Apprenticeship Degree. It combines innovative thinking about how to help the grass roots of retail benefit from higher education, whilst at the same time ensuring businesses can utilise their levy monies effectively.
A Trailblazer group consisting of businesses including leading retailers such as Dunelm, Tesco, B&Q, Morrisons and JD Sports as well as universities have come together to create the Apprenticeship standard, which will be a practical degree course combining academic knowledge from a traditional university degree and the practical experience that is crucial for success in the labour market.
The degree will look ahead to address the sectors future skills requirements by bringing the world of business and education closer together and focused on developing the high level technical skills needed for the retail jobs of the future.
Individuals who go onto the Apprenticeship will gain the equivalent of a university degree qualification, whilst earning a wage, getting real on-the-job experience with their retail employer and avoiding debt!
This is an excellent initiative that will enhance the career prospects of people already employed in retail seeking to progress and for those thinking of joining the retail trade especially school leavers, inspiring individuals to see retail as a first choice career and raising the status of vocational routes to study.
