Mother and son mend relationship thanks to Retail Trust
Beth called the Helpline in despair over her 14-year-old son Aaron’s increasingly bad behaviour. He had recently been caught stealing from a local shop, and had been in trouble at school numerous times. He had also vandalised the family home, and his relationship with his family was deteriorating significantly. Beth had tried speaking to her GP and Aaron had seen a psychiatrist, but as yet, nothing had helped. The Retail Trust Helpline was able to put her contact with a local charity specialising in support for parents of children with behavioural issues, and Beth has been hugely encouraged by the improvement in Aaron’s behaviour both at home and at school. Parents can encounter issues with their children without any warning, and the lack of a satisfactory resolution can have a considerable and permanent impact on both parties. Retail Trust exists to help alleviate such issues as quickly and effectively as possible.
Retail Trust helps elderly couple adapt to lifestyle change
Christina and her husband David are both retired, Christina having previously spent a sizeable period of time in the retail industry. The couple are both in poor physical health and have both suffered heart attacks in recent years. David is currently recovering from cancer, and the treatment has left him incontinent. Whilst he remains positive about his condition, he does have to plan his activities very carefully to reduce the risk of accidents. Despite this, unfortunately accidents are still relatively frequent, and Christina struggles to cope with assisting David on such occasions. Both David and Christina have problems getting in and out of the bath, and after Christina contacted Retail Trust, an occupational therapist visited the couple’s home to find a solution to the problem. The assessment identified their need for a walk-in shower, and Retail Trust pledged £750 in the form of a hardship grant towards the £3,180 required to purchase the shower. This addition to the couple’s home has made a significant positive impact on the lives of both David and Christina.
Lost and Found
Clare lent some money to her son and although he promised to pay this back within two months it didn’t happen. Around this time Clare’s marriage broke down and in her words she 'lost her way'. She found herself juggling rent, council tax and utility bills and without the repayment from her son she was unable to stay on top of things and has got behind with her council tax. She had to leave her home and sleep on a friend’s couch as the bailiffs kept harassing her. After Clare contacted us, we settled the outstanding arrears on her council tax and rent so Clare could move home and since she moved back in, the bailiffs stopped calling. Clare’s now starting afresh and feels in control of her life because of our help. There are many more people who want to start afresh. You can help them by supporting us today.
