Our workshops are aimed at providing HR professionals in retail with the knowledge and skills required for their role.

Individuals will able to discuss relevant topics and develop new tools and perspectives to take back to the workplace.

Employment Workshops 2018

Working with Squire Patton Boggs, the aim of our workshop programme this year is to provide practical guidance for employers on how to protect their businesses against tribunal claims and how to maximise the chances of success if matters do end up in tribunal.  

October | Effective Performance Management

This workshop will use a practical case study to explore the key legal and practical issues that arise when managing underperforming employees. We will consider:  

  • How poor must poor performance be?
  • HR’s role in managing performance – how you can get the best out of your managers
  • Difficult areas, including how to deal with an employee who raises a grievance or takes sick leave during the process
  • The impact of disability on performance
  • Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
  • Practical tips for drafting decision and appeal letters 
  • Hints and tips to ensure your procedures stand up to scrutiny before an Employment Tribunal.

November | Redundancies in the Workplace

This workshop will use a case study to consider the key legal and practical issues to be aware of when managing small-scale redundancies. It will consider:

  • Practical advice and tips from recent redundancy and restructuring exercises we have advised on
  • Following a fair procedure, including pooling, selection and consultation
  • The duty to "bump" or offer alternative employment – how far must you go?
  • The practical steps employers can take to ensure their redundancy programmes stand up to scrutiny before an Employment Tribunal
  • Additional issues to consider when making 20 or more employees redundant.
