Barjis Chohan is the Founder and CEO of Barjis; a multi-cultural award-winning fashion and lifestyle brand. The brand received ‘Fashion brand of the year’ in 2019 in London, as well as ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’, ‘The Most Internationally Aware Entrepreneur’ and ‘Designer in International Trade’ by Financial Mail on Sunday.

Her birthplace is Karachi, Pakistan. She moved to London when she was three years old and was raised in South London. She is married with three daughters.

Barjis is a MA graduate from the prestigious Central St. Martins College of Art & Design and trained in executive education at Cass Business School and worked for Vivienne Westwood. Barjis worked for a French Fashion house in Monte Carlo before starting her business.

There have been several documentaries about her brand including: BBC World, Islam Channel, Malaysian TV, Belgian TV, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 4.

Barjis is a designer, professional speaker, and social entrepreneur. She only became a speaker because she believes that representation is very important; as it allows young people to feel a sense of belonging and know that they matter.

While working in Fashion; Barjis soon discovered the lack of diversity in the industry. She hopes through her initiative, she can open up opportunities for underrepresented communities.

In 2018, Barjis launched her social enterprise; The Barjis Initiative. TBI’s mission is to empower marginalised communities; starting from grass root levels with creativity and leadership programmes. The organisation is not a charity, as she strongly believes in the power of enterprise to transform lives. Her purpose is to provide the tools and open opportunities for overlooked communities that don’t have the role models and resources to follow their dreams.

Barjis is speaking at our virtual event on 10-11 May 2021.
