Leylands Estate, Derby

From 1832 onwards, the Retail Trust has been caring for and protecting the lives of people working in retail. We believe the health of our colleagues is the foundation they need to flourish in both work and life, creating a more sustainable and successful future for retail. Join our charity and together we can transform lives for good.

We provide a much-needed safe haven and happy community at our supported living estate in North Derby. We have built communities where the over 55’s can thrive, maintain their health, retain their independence, and get help when needed. With access to a range of facilities including outdoor seating areas, landscaped gardens and parkland grounds, our residents are able to fully enjoy the highest quality of life in their later years.

We are looking for a motivated person to join our established supported living team based at Eborn House, someone who is committed to delivering quality gardening and grounds maintenance and takes real pride in seeing gardens and nature flourish.

Your role will be to provide a high standard of outdoor maintenance to residents and the estate. You will be working with colleagues and residents to manage expectations, delivering high quality outdoor areas where residents and visitors can spend time enjoying and creating pride in their living environment. You will be supported by an established but expanding team of staff including Estate Manager, Housing Support, Maintenance, Administrators and a Maintenance and Compliance Manager.

This is very much a people-focused and hands-on role, where you will undertake frequent responsive visits across the estate as well as work with the estate manager to create an annual grounds work plan.

Duties includes, but are not limited to:

  • Grass cutting, shrub and light tree pruning
  • Path clearance of weeds, moss, leaves and blossom etc.
  • Light landscaping, digging, weeding, planting
  • Propagating plants from seed and cuttings, onsite composting
  • Outdoor maintenance e.g. gutter clearance (ground floor cottages), road drains etc
  • ·Maintaining tools and equipment and ensure safe systems of work.

You will be an empathetic person with the skills to communicate with our residents, contractors and wider staff team and who has the physical ability to undertake a number of grounds and outdoor maintenance tasks. We would like to further build on our green and eco credentials and explore ways we can further include residents, who often have a keen interest in the gardens, therefore, having an understanding and preferably experience of delivering workshops, activity sessions or gardening advice, would be an advantage.

At the Retail Trust we offer the following employee benefits:

  • A pension scheme of up to 9% employer contributions
  • Life assurance of four times your salary
  • A health cash plan, allowing you to claim back on the cost of a number of services such as optical, dental, medical.
  • Access to a free counselling and support phoneline
  • The day off to celebrate your birthday.

The role is subject to sufficient references and DBS as it will have significant contact with vulnerable adults.
