Mental health awareness in retail

Who is it for?

For anyone interested in learning more about managing and protecting mental health at work and in stressful situations.

What’s the challenge?

  • Mental health problems are on the increase in the UK.
  • Retail and the associated service industries are fast-paced and constantly changing environments and have been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 crisis; knowing how to support ourselves and others is essential.
  • Although we all have mental health, not everyone is confident in their knowledge of the area which can prevent colleagues from seeking – and accepting – help.

How will your organisation benefit from this workshop?

  • Participants will leave the workshop able to speak more confidently about mental health to their colleagues and managers.
  • Participants will know how to spot the early warning signs that a colleague is struggling.
  • Participants will have the skills to be able to support colleagues and signpost them to the right kind of help.

One of the barriers to approaching someone we think might need our support is the fear of making things worse. This session helps participants to gain the confidence to approach colleagues who are struggling, and provides them with the tools to be able to offer compassionate support in the moment, and know where to signpost individuals in an effective way without the risk of becoming overly involved in the colleague’s problems. We also explore self-care and explore the role of sleep, diet, exercise, and social connections and how they can protect our mental health even during the most challenging of times.
