Who is it for?

Line managers, HR teams and others with responsibility for supporting employee wellbeing.

What’s the challenge?

  • Managers often feel uncertain about what best practice for supporting colleagues looks like which only adds to their workload and pressure.
  • It can be a real challenge to help colleagues to perform well when emotional distress appears to be a barrier.
  • A disproportionate amount of time can be spent supporting some team members, distracting from other business priorities.

How will your organisation benefit from this workshop?

  • Line managers will have a clear framework for supporting people to maintain and improve performance – regardless of their level of distress.
  • Line managers will be well-equipped to prevent crises and manage their teams from a proactive position.
  • Line managers will help to improve the wellbeing and the performance of your people using pragmatic approaches in line with best practice.

This practical session explores how managers can spot the early warning signs that a colleague could benefit from emotional and practical support. It will provide them with the skills to be able to effectively and proactively signpost individuals to the best form of help for their issues. We also explore key themes in mental health and wellbeing within the retail sector and coach managers to increase the chances that a colleague will either stay in, or return to, work after a period of being unwell. We also explore how to manage performance when someone is struggling with their mental health, when and how to signpost for maximum benefit to both colleague and organisation, all the while encouraging participants to consider their own wellbeing when supporting others.

Participants leave with a toolkit to bring back into the workplace which includes case studies, tips on how to have difficult conversations, and ways in which they can maximise the chances that a distressed colleague will accept professional support.
