Mental health and wellbeing training by retailers for retailers.

We believe in a world where everyone involved with retail is able to access help and preventative support to manage their wellbeing whenever they need it. Our training helps to ensure that you and your colleagues have the tools to help create happier and healthier workplaces.

Our unique training programmes are offered outside of our paid-for wellbeing services. Each course is delivered by a national network of trainers, all of whom have experience in both mental health training and the retail sector.

Our training courses have been designed to upskill participants to approach mental health and wellbeing with more knowledge and confidence. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the issues as well as practical tools to take back into their workplaces to make a lasting difference.

In addition to our core modules, we offer bespoke training to organisations who wish to develop a programme suited to their own particular business needs and learning requirements.

“The training last week was overwhelmingly positive and one of our best evaluated sessions of the whole conference. People have made some really lovely comments about the facilitator’s tone, delivery and pace of the session – and it was clearly a highlight across the week for them. A pleasure to work with the Retail Trust as always.”

Wellbeing warrior programme

The Retail Trust believes that every retailer can benefit from having expertly trained Wellbeing Warriors on hand to support colleagues with whatever they may be facing. Whether it’s related to mental health, practical issues such as debt, or a life event that shakes that colleague’s sense of control, a Wellbeing Warrior can ensure that confidential, compassionate support is there whenever needed during working hours. Early support can not only mitigate the risk of the colleague being absent due to their challenges, but can foster strong colleague relationships, and normalise the experience of struggling with difficulties.

Unlike other mental health advocate programmes on the market, our three module online programme has been designed by retailers for retailers. Participants gain a full understanding of the following:

- The most common day-to-day wellbeing challenges encountered across all kinds of retail operations.

- Why it’s essential that Warriors don’t attempt to diagnose a colleague with a specific mental or physical health problem.

- How and why to avoid the ‘accidental counsellor’ role - a common challenge across the retail sector.

- How to respond to a wide range of situations, including those requiring safeguarding actions.

- When, how, and where to signpost colleagues in need of help.

- Managing one’s own wellbeing when supporting others.

The training is followed up by a robust package of post-training support for all Wellbeing Warriors.

Ideal for: anyone with an interest in their wellbeing.

Taking stock of wellbeing in retail course participant

“Lovely session! Very insightful and I was able to recognise areas I was struggling with before without noticing I was going through them! This session made me realise that, and now I am able to identify areas I can help myself with stress.”

Mental health awareness course participant

“As someone who was diagnosed with depression and anxiety at 17, I have been to see many therapists and I can honestly say nothing has quite hit home as much as Friday’s session did. I loved every minute of it and would definitely be interested in any other sessions in the future. Thank you again!”

You can’t heal from a burn by staying in the fire course participant

“As a result of attending the session, I feel much more confident about asking people how they’re feeling, knowing that I have the knowledge and skills to respond effectively and safely. Suicidal feelings are more common than I thought but with the right information, we can all make a difference and help to save a life.”
