On entering St James’s Palace there was such a big staircase with the most beautiful long gold handrail and it was all so very elegant and such a beautiful room. There were footmen there who were dressed very smartly as they walked around serving all of the guests with a glass of champagne and lots of delicious canapés.
Later, I met with Her Majesty the late Queen, now she really was such a very petite lady and she was wearing a very pretty and flowery dress. She spoke with me directly and asked me, “how are you?” and “are you a busy lady?”
Now, I also remember that the Duke of Edinburgh was also present and he was really very, very tall and I remember noticing how he walked around with his hands behind his back and he also spoke to some of the guests.
