Chairman, UK Commission for Employment and Skills

Sir Charlie Mayfield is currently leading the Keep Britain Working Review – an independent review into how best to support and enable employers to retain more people with health conditions and disabilities in work.

Charlie has a number of other roles including: chairman of Sparx Learning, a leading edtech business, deputy chairman of the British Museum, group chair of QA Limited, a leading higher education and IT skills solutions provider, senior board advisor to Wren Labs Ltd and chair of Be the Business, a not for profit which supports the competitiveness and growth of smaller businesses across the UK.

Previously, he was chairman of the John Lewis Partnership from 2007 to 2020. Charlie began his career as an officer in the army. He joined SmithKline Beecham in 1992 and became marketing manager for the Lucozade brand, before moving to McKinsey & Co in 1996, where he worked with consumer and retail organisations.
