#EachforEqual this International Women’s Day

Supporting the next generation of retail leaders

The theme of International Women’s Day 2020 is #EachforEqual. An equal world is an enabled world and collectively, each one us can help to create a gender equal world.

Retail Week Be Inspired

We are working closely with the Retail Week Be Inspired programme which promotes gender balance at all levels across retail and encourages women to fulfil their career aspirations.

We caught up with our Be Inspired ambassador Amy Prendergast as well as Kirsty Turner, who we have sponsored to take part in the senior leadership academy.

Amy Prendergast, Director of Change, People and Learning at retailTRUST, reveals why she is involved in this inspirational programme:

“I believe in creating a more inclusive and diverse workforce, and one where female professionals have the opportunities to thrive and develop their careers. There has never been more of a need to create a more balanced workforce. As a young female professional, I know how important it is to have access to both role models and mentors to support your career progression. There are still numerous challenges that women face throughout their careers and I am proud to be part of such a fantastic initiative in supporting the next generation of female leaders.”

Kirsty Turner, Head of Retail HR at Iceland, shares her experience of the programme so far:

“I am being sponsored by retailTRUST to attend the Retail Week Be Inspired senior leadership academy, focused on supporting female leaders to progress and take the next step in their careers. The workshops are built around how to use your unique strengths and talents in order to be the very best version of you as a leader. I have found the workshops I have attended to be incredibly motivational and energising. I have already learned a lot that I can use in both my working and personal life to become the best leader I can be and work towards that first board position. The opportunity to network with like-minded people and share common struggles and successes is invaluable. Most of all to be able to learn from the Be Inspired ambassadors and have access to speak to such inspirational female executive leaders across retail is truly inspiring.”
