retailTRUST launches the Elevator Mentoring Programme in memory of Don McCarthy CBE
retailTRUST, the trade charity for the retail sector and supporting service industries, has launched the elevator mentoring programme in memory of the late Don McCarthy CBE.
Don was a great philanthropist and proud ambassador of retailTRUST. He was well known for his mantra:
“When you get to the top of your career, send the elevator back down for someone else.”
The new mentoring scheme ‘sends the elevator back down’ to those aspiring individuals who will benefit from the experience and expertise of mentors in their given field.
The eight mentors who have currently signed up to the programme include:
Stuart Wright, Director at No. 9 Investments, stated: “Don was always passionate about helping others progress at all stages of their careers. By giving individuals the opportunity to apply for one-to-one mentoring with some of the UK’s leading retail experts, we hope to encourage, develop and inspire people to follow their aspirations and reach their goals in life.”
Amy Prendergast, Head of People and Vocational Learning Services at retailTRUST, said: “As part of our ongoing dedication in improving both social mobility and social inclusion by providing access to learning and education, we are delighted to launch our new flagship mentoring programme. The initiative offers a unique opportunity to support and inspire up-and-coming talent within the retail industry, at every stage of their career.”
